Country estate Raixa – Bunyola
Located on the road from Palma towards the Sóller tunnel, the historic Raixa estate is best known for its gardens, which surround the building and spread out over the southern slope of Sa Muntanyeta. The Visitor Centre, which is housed there, presents an exhibition on the origins of the Tramuntana and the rural culture of the Serra de Tramuntana, one of the most unique cultural landscapes and, since 2011, a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Son Marroig and Miramar Monastery – Deia
On the west coast of the island between Valldemossa and Sóller, high on the cliffs, lies the beautiful Son Marriog estate. In the 19th century it belonged to the Austrian Archduke Ludwig Salvator, one of the most interesting and unconventional scions of the House of Habsburg: Archduke Ludwig Salvator alias “Luigi”. Cousin of the Empress Sisi, he was a forefather of modern dropouts, travellers, sailors, scientists, artists, and a friend and patron of the island of Mallorca. A viewpoint with a small bar invites you to take a break with a fantastic view over the sea and the Tramuntana mountains.
Tren de Soller – the red lightning
Since 1912, the Sóller railway has been connecting the island capital Palma de Mallorca with the town of Sóller on a daily basis. The route extends over 27.3 km. Since 1913, the railway company has also been operating the tram line from Sóller to Puerto de Sóller (the port of Sóller) over a distance of 4.9 km. The route is unique in that the railway has to overcome a natural obstacle, the Sierra de Alfàbia, over a length of 2.8 kilometres and a height of 496 metres. To do this, the railway covers a difference in altitude of 199 metres over a distance of just seven kilometres. It passes through 13 tunnels on its way to Sóller. A fascinating excursion for the whole family.
